Disability Accommodations

Person holding wooden cubes spelled ADA on them

This policy is in accordance with applicable state and federal laws including, but not limited to, the ADA, 42 U.S.C. § 12101 et seq.; Sections 504 and 508 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, as amended, 29 U.S.C. § 794 et seq.; and applicable state laws, including but not limited to the California Fair Employment and Housing Act (FEHA), Government Code § 12940 et seq. and Education Code § 67302 and 67310-13.

For more information on CSU's policy on disability support and accommodations, please refer to CSU Executive Order 1111. The policy applies to all CSU campuses and to the Office of the Chancellor.

Accommodations Process

Reasonable efforts will be made to accommodate the needs of individuals with qualified disabilities.

Many conditions and accommodations are clear and easily accommodated. In situations where an accommodation is requested and there are questions regarding either the existence of a qualified disability, the need for an accommodation, or the nature of the accommodation to be provided, campus managers need to consult with the appropriate ADA Coordinator (described below) prior to initiating discussions over accommodations. The respective ADA Coordinator will ensure that proper medical documentation is received supporting the accommodation request and will begin the interactive process with the employee and their manager.

The following program guidelines and resources provide specific details regarding ADA Accommodation requests:

  • Overview of Reasonable Accommodation Process
  • Accommodation Request Form
  • Guidelines for Evaluating Impairments
  • ADA/FEHA Job Duty Evaluation Checklist
  • Authorization to Release Medical Records
  • Accommodation Guidelines/Forms Bundle
  • Discrimination Based on Pregnancy and Related Conditions Factsheet
